Dr. Yuliya Filipenka

Dr. Yuliya Filipenka began practicing dentistry at seventeen years old in Belarus — an age when most future dentists haven't yet started college. She graduated from Belarusian State Medical University with a rigorous curriculum that included extensive training in orthodontics, prosthodontics, and restorative dentistry, producing a clinician with thousands of clinical hours before her American-trained peers had entered dental school.

That early start gave Dr. Filipenka something no credential can replicate: a depth of clinical observation that comes only from years of hands-on experience with patients of every age, background, and treatment complexity. Her orthodontic training is particularly relevant to her cosmetic work — she understands tooth movement, bite relationships, midline alignment, and the occlusal plane in ways that most general cosmetic dentists do not. When she evaluates a smile for veneers or bonding, she's not just looking at shade and proportion. She's assessing facial symmetry, tooth-to-lip relationships, and whether the bite will remain stable after cosmetic intervention.

After relocating to the United States, Dr. Filipenka completed an intensive International Dentist Program to obtain her California licensure. She joined The Loft Dental Studio in Costa Mesa, where she found what she considers the ideal practice model for cosmetic dentistry: a dual-specialist collaboration with board-certified periodontist Dr. Chanook David Ahn. At Loft Dental, every cosmetic case must be approved by both Dr. Filipenka and Dr. Ahn before it is considered complete — a quality standard that ensures both the esthetic result and the supporting tissue and bone are independently evaluated.

This collaboration is built on productive disagreement. Dr. Filipenka pushes for the ideal esthetic outcome — she wants the gum line exactly right, the proportions precise, the smile natural. Dr. Ahn pushes for the biological foundation that sustains it. When they disagree, they work through the difference until both standards are met. As a devoted mother of four, Dr. Filipenka brings warmth and understanding to every patient interaction.
